Dodge is owned by Chrysler, which is owned by Fiat. Dodge was founded by John Francis Dodge and Horace Elgin Dodge in 1900. They started by making engines for Oldsmobile cars. Then Henry Ford asked the brothers to make engines, transmissions, and axles for his company in exchange for stock in the Ford company. They later sold the stock back to Ford for $25 million.
After making parts for Ford for years, the brothers started Dodge Brothers Motor Company in 1913 and made their first 4 cylinder car in 1914. Three years later they began making trucks, as well.
The brothers fell ill with pneumonia and died in 1925. Their widows sold Dodge to Chrysler in 1928. Dodge makes sportier vehicles, while Chrysler makes luxury cars.
Dodge Ram trucks are made in the United States. Most other models are made in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The Dodge Durango, Ram 1500, and Ram 1500 Classic are made in Michigan.
Dodge models made abroad include the Dodge Challenger and the Grand Caravan, which are made in Canada. The Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, 5500 Heavy Duty, Ram Pro Master, and Journey are made in Mexico.
The first Dodge cars had a 6-pointed star logo with “DB” in the center, which stood for Dodge brothers. In 1932, Dodge began using a leaping ram for the Ram car logo. In 1954, they opted to use just the ram head for the logo.
In 1941, the Dodge family crest was used to make the logo. The crest consisted of four black and yellow horizontal lines with a red vertical line with an “O” going through it. A knights head sat above the crest.
In 1955 designer Virgil Exner created the Forward Look logo with two overlapping boomerang shapes that represented moving forward and progression.
From the 1960s to the early 80s, Dodge created another logo using three arrow shapes placed in a 3 pointed star formation. This logo seemed totally meaningless, but had a sleek and stylish design.
In 1982 Dodge adapted Chrystler’s Pentastar logo. They used red instead of the Chrysler blue to differentiate themselves.
In 1993 Dodge began using a renewed version of the ram’s head logo for all their cars, except for the Viper, which features a viper head as the logo.
In 2010, Dodge started using its current logo with the company name in silver and two slanted red lines at the end. The red lines symbolize passion and excitement.
After the Dodge brothers passed away in the 1920s and the company was acquired by Chrysler, it made the first downdraft carburetor for cars. Dodge then began focusing on more reliable, safer, and fuel-efficient cars. It produced vehicles with front suspension, the silent helical gear transmission, automatic spark control, valve seat inserts, and factory rust-proofed bodies. Soon after, Dodge introduced its 8-cylinder engine, V-type windshields, sealed headlights, and two-tone paint, which was available for the first time for automobiles.
In the 1940s, the government ordered all carmakers to shift to producing war automobiles. This is when Dodge produced 6-cylinder engines with more horsepower and torque.
In the 50s, Dodge made its first hardtop coupe with roll-up windows, and the all-steel convertible called the Indianapolis 500. In 1957, Dodge reduced the size of its cars and included large tailfins.
In the 1960s, Dodge created its famous muscle cars, the Dart, Challenger, and Charger. In the 80s Dodge began focusing on producing more fuel-efficient vehicles, that were still affordable. This is when the Daytona, the Omni, Shadow, Lancer Shelby, and Viper were born.
Today, Dodge cars are some of the most popular and stand-out vehicles on the road. In 2015 Dodge became the fastest-growing automobile manufacturer. Dodge makes great cars to lease because of its stylish appearance, powerful motors, and affordability. If you would like to lease a Dodge Challenger, Charger, or family size Durango give us a call at (718) 877- CARS. We have any Dodge model you may be looking for.
For driving enthusiasts, 2020 Dodge models give you Performance Pages, which lets you see things like G-force, engine output, lap times, and much more. The new Dodge has a beautiful 12.1-inch touch screen display for navigation, Apple Car Play, and Android connectivity.
New Dodge models have an impressive sound quality with 900-watt Harman Kardon Premium Audio System that boasts 19 speakers. The Dodge cabin also provides noise cancellation to drown out the sound of the engine and road and allow you to listen to music or have a conversation.
The 2020 Dodge Durango has a 392-cubic-inch HEMI V8 engine and 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. You can also get the Blacktop or Brass Monkey Appearance Package or the more luxurious Premium Interior Group, which adds a Dinamica suede-wrapped headliner and hand-wrapped instrument panel with live accent stitching.
Dodge receives a 3.5 out of 5 on the reliability scale. A Dodge has an average of 0.2 repair visits a year with only 15% of repairs being serious. The average cost of repairs on a Dodge is above average at $634 per year. This is why leasing a Dodge is a better option than buying because fewer repairs are necessary with a brand new vehicle and any necessary maintenance is covered under your warranty.
