Who Owns Chrysler?

Fiat owns Chrysler as of 2014. The two companies joined together to create Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Fiat also owns Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Jeep, Maserati, and RAM. In 2020, Fiat celebrates its 121st anniversary.

Where is Chrysler Made?

Most Chrysler vehicles are made in the United States, however, Chrysler has production plants in Canada, Mexico, and Venezuela. The Chrysler Pentastar engine is made in Detroit, Michigan and Warren, Michigan. The Chrysler 300 and Pacifica are made in Ontario, Canada. The Chrysler Hemi engine is made in Mexico. Some Pentastar engines are also manufactured in Mexico.

What is Chrysler’s History?

Chrysler was founded in 1925 under the name Chrysler Corporation. In 2009 it reorganized and changed its name to Chrysler Group LLC. The company became a subsidiary of Fiat and became Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).

Chrysler’s origins actually go back to 1904 with the Maxwell Motor Company when Jonathan Maxwell and Benjamin Briscoe made their first car. By 1920, Maxwell Motor Company was in debt and called in Walter Chrysler for help. In 1923, Chrysler bought the company and renamed it after himself. By 1924 Chrysler manufactured a competitive 6-cylinder vehicle. In 1928 Chrysler bought Dodge Brothers and became a noteworthy company in the United States.

In 1934, Chrysler introduced the Airflow models designed wit aerodynamic principles. Chrysler developed the first wind tunnel for these cars, but they were unsuccessful. Consumers didn’t like their design.

During World War II Chrysler suspected all civilian car production to help produce vehicles for the war. During this time, Chrysler built over 25,000 tanks to help with the war efforts.

After the war, Chrysler began innovating again and created the first muscle car, the Chrysler 300. In 1971 Chrysler bought shares of Mitsubishi and the company began manufacturing cars under the Chrysler name.

By the 70s Chrysler was in financial trouble and sought help for a Congressional bailout. In the 80s, Chrysler paid off its loans with the success of its minivans and the fuel-efficient K-cars. In 1987, Chrysler bought American Motors, but this only led to more financial trouble for the company.

The brand has 3 marks of their own including Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler. 1990 was Chrysler’s big comeback year with its Dodge Viper and Jeep models.

For some time Chrysler was owned by Mercedes and General Motors. However, this did not go well and it was seeking a new buyer. This is where Fiat stepped in.

What Does the Chrysler Logo Mean?

Chrysler was designed to be a reliable comfort luxury brand. Its first logo represented just that. The logo depicted a wax seal to show Chrysler’s seal of approval for its reliability and safety. The logo depicted a blue ribbon to stand for first place.

In later years Chrysler came out with a version of its current winged logo. The wings stand for the speed of the Roman God Mercury. In a later version of the winged logo, the seal was placed in the center of the wings. Then a shield and crown were added to the design.
